I always look forward to hosting recitals. Unfortunately, health and safety issues sometimes prevent us from gathering in person to enjoy hearing everyone perform. During this time though, we continue to make music in our homes, and with our families. Thankfully, several parents agreed to share their house concert highlights from spring of 2020. Enjoy!

Piano

Leo plays Minuet in F major by Leopold Mozart. He also plays violin with his brother in the duet section.

In the next house concert, Ollie starts with Fantasia by Georg Telemann, then plays some jazz for his second piece, Mr P.C. by John Coltrane.

Santi plays the Theme from the Pink Panther by Henry Mancini. You can also hear him play trumpet in the duet section.

Here, Phin is playing St. Thomas by the great tenor saxophone player Sonny Rollins.

Phin’s second piece is Scherzo by Carl Maria Von Weber

Maya plays Mozart’s 5th Variation of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, Imagine by John Lennon, Take the ‘A’ Train by Billy Strayhorn, and a Duet on Heart and Soul by Hoagie Carmichael with her dad.

Michael is playing the classical piece, Minuet in G, by Christian Petzold.

For his second piece, Michael switches to jazz and plays Autumn Leaves by Joseph Kosma.

Sam is playing Gymnopedie#3 by the French composer Erik Satie.

Ozzie’s first piece is Work Song by jazz trumpeter Nat Adderly.

Ozzie’s next piece Invention #4 in D minor composed by J.S. Bach.

Guitar

Calvin learned several guitar parts for “Sweet Home Chicago” by Robert Johnson, and his dad helped with recording and using Cakewalk to layer them together into this audio track.

Continuing with this theme, Calvin learned multiple guitar parts for Cream’s Sunshine of Your Love, and put them together into this final track.

Henry is playing Cantaloupe Island by Herbie Hancock with his Looper pedal. This performance advanced him to intermediate band a year early.

Avi plays the minor blues, Mr P.C. by John Coltrane on guitar with a looper pedal.

Avi plays his second piece on acoustic guitar with both the melody and harmony in real time.  Here’s In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg.

Duets and more!

In this rendition of Ode to Joy by Ludwig van Beethoven, Leo is playing violin, and Santi is on piano.

Here they play All Blues by Miles Davis. Santi is playing trumpet, and Leo is on piano.

Ozzie worked with a special guest singer for Imagine, by John Lennon.

Next, Isaac and his dad team up to play One, Two, Three, Four, by William Leavitt.

Here, Isaac and his dad play Moanin’ by B. Timmons.

Michael playing keyboard, his dad on electric bass, and his younger brother on drums, combined forces for this rendition of Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes.

A special thanks to the students and their families who agreed to share their music with us. Thank you!
