Recitals can be an important avenue of growth for those studying music. First, playing long practiced pieces for an audience of friends, family, or peers motivates students to truly do their best work, and give the music their full attention. In addition to being a great motivator, recitals offer an opportunity to shine, and afterward a chance to pause and realize that their hard work has payed off. It’s similar to playing a sport, where athletes work on their skills, and practice in preparation for a game. If there was never a game, it wouldn’t be quite as much fun! And, you wouldn’t be as motivated to practice. Finally, it’s an opportunity for younger students to be inspired and see what they might be capable of playing in a few years. It also offers a chance for more advanced students to reflect on the years they’ve spent working on and advancing their skills.
I enjoy hosting recitals for my students each year at The Royal Room. It’s rewarding to see my students’ growth, and to see their successes come to fruition. If you’d like to see a few clips, click one of the links below!
